OUTREACH

What is Outreach?

BPG outreach provides assistance, education, information, and activities for people with PD and their families. Central to BPG outreach is raising awareness of PD in Brooklyn communities and helping everyone with PD find good medical care.

Why is Outreach Important?

  1. Outreach is important because early diagnosis and treatment of PD is important. Just knowing the cause of symptoms is often a relief to a person with PD and to family members. Early treatment may help slow the progression of the disease. It is BPG's belief that the more people learn about PD, the more likely people with possible symptoms of PD will seek diagnosis.

Unfortunately, Parkinson's Disease is often difficult to diagnose. Some symptoms, such as slowing down, pain and stiffness, can easily be mistaken for signs of old age. Others, such as weakness in a limb and trouble walking, could also be signs of a stroke. It's easy to see why family members, friends and physicians unfamiliar with PD, would overlook or misidentify such symptoms.

  2. Parkinson's Disease Outreach helps the families of persons with PD. The more spouses and children learn about PD the better for everyone.
